[More Info]
This stamped steel Rear Seat & Trunk Divider is a direct-fit replacement panel for the 1964-1968 Ford Mustang Coupe. It restores the factory separation between the passenger compartment and trunk, provides structural support for the rear seat back and trunk floor, and prevents cargo from intruding into the cabin. Manufactured from heavy-gauge steel to OEM dimensions, the panel is built for durability and long-term corrosion resistance when properly prepped and painted. An essential part for rot repair and complete restorations, it helps return your Mustang to factory fit, finish, and function.
Features:
  • Fits 1964-1968 Ford Mustang Coupe (1964 model year).
  • Includes installation hardware.
  • Stamped heavy-gauge steel fabricated to OEM-style dimensions for a direct-fit restoration.
  • Restores trunk-to-cabin separation and provides structural support for the rear seat back.
  • Prevents trunk cargo from entering the passenger compartment and reduces road noise.
  • Durable replacement ideal for rot repair and full interior/trunk restorations.
  • Requires welding or professional bodywork for permanent installation; accepts primer and paint.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 4/5
  • Estimated time: 2–6 hours (depending on corrosion, experience, and prep work)
Suggested Tools:
  • Socket set and screwdrivers
  • Trim removal tools
  • Spot-weld cutter or drill with spot-weld bits
  • Angle grinder with cutting and grinding discs
  • MIG welder (or TIG/plug-weld equipment)
  • Clamps and C‑clips/clecos for temporary holding
  • Hammer and dolly
  • Measuring tape and marker
  • Seam sealer and applicator
  • Rust inhibitor, primer, and paint
  • Safety gear (glasses, gloves, respirator)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface, disconnect the battery, and remove trunk contents.
  2. Remove rear seat cushion and backrest along with any trim panels that cover the divider area.
  3. Inspect the existing divider and surrounding structure; mark spot-weld locations and corrosion boundaries.
  4. Use a spot-weld cutter or drill to remove factory spot welds and an angle grinder to cut away rusted or damaged metal.
  5. Clean and prep mating surfaces by grinding to bare metal; treat any remaining rust with rust inhibitor.
  6. Test-fit the new divider panel, making small adjustments as necessary for alignment and fitment.
  7. Clamp the panel in place and secure with temporary fasteners (clecos or sheet-metal screws) to verify gaps and fit.
  8. Weld the panel in place following factory seam locations—use plug or spot welds where appropriate; avoid warping by welding in short, alternating stitches.
  9. Grind welds smooth, apply seam sealer to all joints and overlaps, then prime and paint the repaired area to prevent corrosion.
  10. Reinstall interior trim, rear seat components, and trunk items. Reconnect the battery and verify fit and finish.
