Replacement gas tank sending unit with a brass float designed for GM and Ford cars and trucks. This sending unit provides accurate fuel-level measurement and long-lasting corrosion resistance thanks to the brass float and robust construction. It’s intended as a direct replacement or upgrade for worn, leaking, or corroded sending units during restoration or routine maintenance, improving reliability and gauge accuracy while being straightforward to install when accessed via an in-tank access plate or by removing the tank.
Features:
  • Fits many GM and Ford cars and trucks.
  • Brass float resists corrosion for improved longevity in fuel environments.
  • Provides reliable, accurate fuel-level sensing to restore correct gauge readings.
  • Designed for replacement/restoration of worn or damaged sending units.
  • Straightforward installation with common automotive tools; gasket included or recommended.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 1–2 hours (tank access or removal required)
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands or vehicle lift
  • Wheel chocks
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Screwdrivers (flat and Phillips)
  • Pliers
  • Fuel line disconnect tool (if applicable)
  • Drain pan or fuel-safe container
  • Torque wrench
  • New sender gasket or sealant
  • Multimeter (for testing)
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Safety first: work in a well-ventilated area, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and relieve fuel system pressure per vehicle service manual.
  2. Secure the vehicle on jack stands and chock the wheels. If necessary, support and/or remove the fuel tank following manufacturer procedures.
  3. Drain fuel from the tank into a fuel-safe container or transfer enough fuel to lower the tank safely, if tank removal is required.
  4. Remove the access plate or sending unit retaining ring/bolts. Carefully lift the old sending unit out of the tank to avoid damaging the float arm or fuel pickup.
  5. Inspect the tank opening and clean mating surfaces. Replace any damaged locking ring or flange hardware.
  6. Compare new sender to old unit for float orientation, arm length, and electrical connector compatibility. Transfer any necessary clips or wiring adapters.
  7. Install the new sending unit with a fresh gasket or a compatible sealant. Tighten the retaining ring or bolts to the specified torque — hand-fit first, then torque to spec.
  8. Reconnect fuel lines and wiring harness; ensure secure fuel line fittings and correct electrical connections.
  9. Reinstall the tank (if removed) and lower the vehicle. Reconnect the battery.
  10. Prime the fuel system if required, start the engine and check for leaks. Use a multimeter or gauge reading to verify accurate operation across the sender’s travel.
  11. Road test or cycle the gauge to confirm consistent readings and re-check for any fuel leaks after initial operation.
