Direct-fit tail light panel for 1964–1966 Ford Mustang that secures and aligns the tail light housings while restoring the rear bodyline. Stamped steel construction with factory contours and pre-drilled mounting locations provides an accurate, durable replacement for corroded originals. This panel prevents water intrusion, reinforces the tail lamp area for reliable mounting of lenses and wiring, and is primed for paint—making it ideal for restoration projects or routine replacement to return your Mustang's rear end to factory appearance.
Features:
  • Fits 1964–1966 Ford Mustang (all body styles for those model years).
  • Stamped steel construction with OEM-style contours for accurate fitment.
  • Pre-drilled mounting holes and correct lamp alignment to secure tail light housings.
  • Primed finish for corrosion resistance and easy paint preparation.
  • Restores rear-end appearance, prevents rust, and provides a solid mounting surface.
  • Designed for restoration and replacement of rusted or damaged original panels.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 1–3 hours (depending on existing corrosion and welding needs)
Suggested Tools:
  • Socket set & ratchet
  • Screwdrivers (flat & Phillips)
  • Trim panel removal tool
  • Spot-weld cutter or grinder (if old panel is welded)
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Clamps
  • MIG welder or rivet gun (welding optional depending on vehicle)
  • Seam sealer and rust inhibitor
  • Paint supplies (primer/paint) and sandpaper
Instructions:
  1. Open the trunk and remove trunk mat, trim, and access panels to expose the tail light area.
  2. Remove tail light lenses and housings; disconnect wiring harness and set wiring aside safely.
  3. Remove fasteners or cut spot welds securing the old tail light panel using a spot-weld cutter or grinder as required.
  4. Carefully remove the old panel and clean mating surfaces of rust, dirt, and old sealant.
  5. Test-fit the replacement panel to verify alignment with body gaps and tail lamp housings; make minor adjustments as needed.
  6. Secure the panel in place using original fasteners, supplied hardware, or by spot-welding clamps—use clamps to hold panel during final attachment.
  7. If welding, make tack welds, check alignment, then complete welds; grind welds smooth if necessary. If using mechanical fasteners, drill and install rivets or bolts per fitment.
  8. Treat exposed metal with rust inhibitor, apply seam sealer to joints, and prime/paint the panel to match surrounding bodywork.
  9. Reinstall tail light housings, reconnect wiring, test all tail light functions, then reinstall lenses and trunk trim.
