Inner tie rod end (right/left hand) designed for 1975–1993 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. With a 293 mm overall length, this steering linkage component secures the inner end of the rack-and-pinion or steering box assembly to the outer tie rod, maintaining alignment and safe steering response. Built to resist wear and provide reliable performance, it restores steering precision, reduces play and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Easy to install for the DIY mechanic or professional, this part is ideal for restoration projects or routine steering system repairs.
Features:
- Fits 1975–1993 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models (inner tie rod end, right or left hand, 293 mm overall length).
- Constructed from hardened steel with protective finish for corrosion resistance and long life.
- Secures the inner steering linkage to maintain alignment and precise steering control.
- Reduces steering play and helps prevent uneven tire wear for safer handling.
- Direct replacement part for restoration or maintenance of original steering geometry.
- Threaded end and sealed joint design for straightforward installation and reliable performance.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30–60 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with jack and secure on jack stands, then remove the front wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod end on the steering rack or box. Apply penetrating oil to nuts and threads if corroded.
- Mark the position of the outer tie rod relative to the inner tie rod or count turns to preserve alignment settings.
- Remove the cotter pin and nut from the outer tie rod end where applicable, then separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod and slide it off to expose the inner tie rod locknut.
- Use an adjustable wrench or inner tie rod tool to loosen and remove the inner tie rod locknut, then unthread the inner tie rod from the steering rack.
- Compare new inner tie rod to the old unit to verify correct length (293 mm overall) and thread engagement, then install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the rack to the marked or measured position.
- Tighten the inner tie rod locknut to manufacturer torque specification and attach the outer tie rod, restoring the previous turn count or alignment mark.
- Reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle, tighten the nut to spec and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, tighten lug nuts to specification, and perform a steering alignment as soon as possible to ensure proper toe settings.
