Inner tie rod end for 1995–2002 Ford and Mercury vehicles, designed to connect the steering rack to the outer tie rod and transmit steering motion precisely. This direct-replacement inner tie rod restores steering feel, reduces play, and helps maintain proper wheel alignment. Constructed for durability and reliable performance under road conditions, it’s ideal for suspension repairs, restoration projects, or routine maintenance to ensure safe, responsive steering.
Features:
- Fits 1995-2002 Ford and Mercury models (inner tie rod end, right or left hand).
- Durable construction resists wear for longer service life under normal driving conditions.
- Replaces worn or loose inner tie rods to restore precise steering and reduce steering play.
- Designed for easy installation with standard suspension service tools; suitable for professional or DIY mechanics.
- Helps maintain alignment settings and prevents uneven tire wear, supporting safe vehicle handling.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and block rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, then lift the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod at the steering rack and inspect the connection to the outer tie rod and steering linkage.
- Use a pen or marker to mark the position of the outer tie rod relative to the inner to preserve alignment reference.
- Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut or retaining fastener at the outer tie rod end, then separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod end puller or pickle fork.
- Loosen the jam nut on the outer tie rod and unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod, counting turns or measuring length to maintain alignment reference.
- Remove the retaining clip or lock nut securing the inner tie rod to the steering rack. Unscrew the inner tie rod from the rack (use appropriate tools or an inner tie rod tool if required).
- Inspect threads and steering rack spline for damage and clean mating surfaces.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the steering rack to the factory-specified torque, and secure any retaining clip or lock nut per specifications.
- Reinstall the outer tie rod onto the new inner tie rod to the previously noted position or measured length. Tighten the jam nut.
- Reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and torque the castle nut/retaining fastener to spec; install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure proper toe and prevent tire wear.
