Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and loosen lug nuts on the front wheel.
- Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners (control arm, ball joint stud nut) and let soak.
- Remove brake caliper and rotor or swing caliper out of the way if necessary for access; support caliper to avoid strain on brake line.
- Remove cotter pin and castle nut (or retaining nut) from the ball joint stud.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork and hammer. Take care not to damage the knuckle.
- Use a ball joint press to press out the old ball joint from the lower control arm. Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or corrosion.
- Press the new ball joint into the control arm using the press, ensuring correct orientation and full seating per part markings.
- Insert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, install the castle nut/retaining nut, and torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall brake components and wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Confirm proper operation by checking steering/suspension for play and test driving at low speed to verify handling and alignment. An alignment is recommended after installation.
