Front lower ball joint designed for 1959–1979 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury full-size and intermediate models. This replacement lower ball joint secures the steering knuckle to the control arm, allowing smooth pivoting while supporting vehicle weight and resisting wear. It restores proper suspension geometry, reduces play and vibration, and improves steering response and tire life. Built for durability and reliable performance, it is suitable for restoration projects and routine suspension maintenance.
Features:
  • Fits 1959–1979 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury front lower ball joint applications (driver or passenger side, right/left hand specified).
  • Restores factory steering geometry and reduces play for improved handling and tire wear.
  • Constructed with hardened materials and corrosion-resistant finishes for long-lasting durability.
  • Designed to secure the steering knuckle to the lower control arm and allow smooth pivoting.
  • Direct replacement for OE-style ball joints for classic car restoration and suspension rebuilds.
  • Easy-to-install with common shop tools; available for either right or left lower locations.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Socket and ratchet set
  • Breaker bar
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint press or suitable C-clamp press
  • Ball joint separator (pickle fork) or tie rod separator
  • Hammer
  • Pliers (for cotter pin)
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease (if required)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and loosen lug nuts on the front wheel.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners (control arm, ball joint stud nut) and let soak.
  4. Remove brake caliper and rotor or swing caliper out of the way if necessary for access; support caliper to avoid strain on brake line.
  5. Remove cotter pin and castle nut (or retaining nut) from the ball joint stud.
  6. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork and hammer. Take care not to damage the knuckle.
  7. Use a ball joint press to press out the old ball joint from the lower control arm. Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or corrosion.
  8. Press the new ball joint into the control arm using the press, ensuring correct orientation and full seating per part markings.
  9. Insert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, install the castle nut/retaining nut, and torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. Reinstall brake components and wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
  11. Confirm proper operation by checking steering/suspension for play and test driving at low speed to verify handling and alignment. An alignment is recommended after installation.
