Inner left-hand tie rod end for 1963–1966 Ford and Mercury vehicles equipped with power steering and V8 engines. This replacement steering component connects the inner steering rack to the outer tie rod, maintaining proper toe alignment and steering geometry. Built to restore original fit and function, it reduces play in the steering system, improves directional stability, and helps prevent premature tire wear. The part is corrosion-resistant and designed for direct fit installation to simplify restoration and maintenance of classic Ford/Mercury cars.
Features:
- Fits 1963-1966 Ford and Mercury models with power steering and V8 engines (inner left-hand tie rod end).
- Direct-fit replacement for OEM inner tie rod ends to restore correct steering geometry.
- Constructed from hardened steel with corrosion-resistant finish for long-term durability.
- Precision machined threads and ball stud for secure fit and reduced play.
- Helps eliminate steering looseness, reduces vibration, and prevents uneven tire wear.
- Ideal for classic restoration, routine maintenance, or performance refresh of vintage steering systems.
- Designed for straightforward installation using common shop tools.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45 minutes - 2 hours
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift vehicle with floor jack, and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the side being serviced.
- Locate the inner tie rod end at the steering rack and inspect the outer tie rod connection. Apply penetrating oil to nuts and threads if corroded.
- Loosen and remove the jam nut at the outer tie rod connection if necessary, then mark or measure the length from the inner to outer tie rod threads to preserve alignment settings.
- Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork, then unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner assembly enough to clear the rack.
- Remove any retaining hardware securing the inner tie rod to the rack (retaining clip or nut) and unscrew the inner tie rod from the steering rack using an appropriate tool or inner tie rod tool.
- Compare the new inner tie rod to the old part to confirm fitment, then thread the new inner tie rod onto the rack to the same installed length as measured earlier or to factory specification. Tighten to the specified torque.
- Reattach the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod and to the steering knuckle. Install and tighten the jam nut to lock the adjustment.
- Torque all fasteners to factory specifications. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts.
- Test drive at low speed and have a professional alignment performed to ensure correct toe and steering geometry.
