Inner tie rod end (right/left hand) designed for 1969–1974 Ford and Mercury vehicles. This precision replacement part restores steering linkage integrity, providing secure attachment between the steering rack and outer tie rod for accurate steering response. Built for durability and consistent performance, it reduces play, prevents uneven tire wear, and enhances vehicle safety. Ideal for restoring original steering feel on classic Mustangs, Cougars, Fairlanes and other compatible Ford/Mercury models from the era.
Features:
- Fits 1969–1974 Ford & Mercury models (inner tie rod end, right and left hand applications)
- Forged steel construction for strength and long service life
- Restores steering precision by eliminating play in the steering linkage
- Sealed joint design helps prevent contamination and extends component life
- Direct replacement for OE-style inner tie rod ends—no modification required
- Easy to install with common hand tools; suitable for restoration and maintenance projects
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts, raise the front end with a jack, and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod connected to the steering rack and the outer tie rod; apply penetrating oil to fasteners and let soak if needed.
- Mark the position of the outer tie rod on the threaded portion with a marker to preserve alignment and count turns when removing.
- Loosen the jam nut between the inner and outer tie rod, then disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Remove the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod and unthread the inner tie rod from the steering rack. Note the number of turns for reference.
- Compare the new inner tie rod to the old one to ensure correct orientation and length. Thread the new inner tie rod into the steering rack to approximately the same position as the original.
- Reattach the outer tie rod to the new inner tie rod using the previously marked position and tighten the jam nut to specification.
- Reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and torque the nut to the factory specification. Install any cotter pins if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
