Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake and loosen wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to ball joint fasteners and allow to soak if corroded.
- Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the ball joint stud (if equipped).
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or press. If necessary, remove control arm bolts to gain access.
- Unbolt the ball joint from the control arm (or press out the ball joint depending on vehicle style).
- Compare the new ball joint to the old one to confirm correct orientation and fit.
- Install the new ball joint into the control arm and secure fasteners to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
- Reattach the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle and tighten the castle nut to spec; insert a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have the vehicle’s alignment checked and adjusted as needed after installation to ensure proper tire wear and handling.
