Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Raise front of vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands; remove the wheel on the side being serviced.
- Mark the position of the outer tie rod on the threaded area to preserve alignment, and measure the exposed length for reference.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and remove the cotter pin and castellated nut (if present) from the tie rod end stud.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle; remove the outer tie rod from the inner assembly if necessary to gain access.
- Loosen and remove the inner tie rod end by holding the inner shaft and unthreading the tie rod end from the steering rack or center link.
- Inspect mating surfaces and threads; apply anti-seize or light thread lubricant if desired, then install the new inner tie rod by hand-threading to the measured reference length.
- Tighten to the specified torque for your vehicle, secure the jam nut, and reattach the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Install new castellated nut and cotter pin if applicable.
- If unit has a grease fitting, grease the joint per specification. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
