Front lower ball joint (with knurling) designed for 1994–2004 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles. This replacement ball joint secures the lower control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining correct wheel alignment and suspension geometry while resisting rotational slip thanks to its knurled shaft. Built for durability and reliable performance, it restores steering precision, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent premature tire wear. The part is engineered for direct replacement in restorations and routine suspension repairs, offering a corrosion-resistant finish and robust construction for long service life.
Features:
- Fitment: Direct fit for 1994–2004 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury front lower ball joint (left or right hand application).
- Knurled shaft to resist rotational movement and ensure a secure press-fit in the control arm.
- High-strength construction for durability under suspension loads and repeated road stress.
- Restores steering precision, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent uneven tire wear.
- Corrosion-resistant finish for longer life in harsh road conditions.
- Designed for straightforward replacement during suspension restoration or maintenance.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and loosen front lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Spray fasteners and joint with penetrating oil where necessary. Remove the cotter pin and castellated nut from the ball joint stud.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork. Support the knuckle to avoid stressing the CV axle or brake lines.
- Unbolt or remove any retaining hardware and press out the old ball joint from the lower control arm using a ball joint press kit.
- Clean the control arm bore, inspect for damage, and apply light lubricant or anti-seize where recommended.
- Position the new knurled ball joint into the control arm and press it squarely into place with the press kit until fully seated.
- Reassemble the steering knuckle onto the ball joint stud, install the supplied nut, and torque to the vehicle manufacturer's specification. Install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification. Repeat for the other side if replacing both joints.
- After installation, check wheel alignment and adjust as necessary; a professional alignment is recommended following suspension work.
