Outer right-hand tie rod end for 1963–1966 Ford and Mercury vehicles equipped with V8 engines and power steering. This replacement part connects the steering linkage to the steering knuckle, translating steering wheel input into wheel movement while maintaining alignment and absorbing road forces. Designed as a direct-fit restoration component, it restores play-free steering feel, improves directional control, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Built for long service life, it offers corrosion resistance, dependable ball-socket articulation, and straightforward installation to get classic cars back on the road reliably.
Features:
- Fits 1963-1966 Ford and Mercury models with 8-cylinder engines and power steering (outer right-hand tie rod end).
- Direct-fit replacement that restores steering precision and corrects play in the steering linkage.
- Durable ball-and-socket design resists wear and provides smooth articulation under load.
- Protective coating reduces corrosion for long-term reliability on restored vehicles.
- Factory-style dimensions for proper alignment and tire wear prevention.
- Simple, serviceable design allows faster installation during restoration or routine maintenance.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Secure vehicle on level ground, chock wheels, loosen lug nuts then lift and support the front end on jack stands; remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle and use a wrench to loosen the jam nut that secures the tie rod end to the inner tie rod.
- Mark the position of the tie rod end on the threaded portion (or count turns) to preserve alignment, then loosen and remove the tie rod end from the inner tie rod.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and unfasten the castle nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; remove the old tie rod end.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position or number of turns as the original to maintain approximate alignment.
- Insert the stud into the steering knuckle, secure with the castle nut and torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification; install a new cotter pin if required.
- Tighten the jam nut against the new tie rod end to lock the adjustment in place.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque the lug nuts, and verify steering operation.
- Because precise steering geometry is critical, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure correct toe and avoid premature tire wear.
