Inner tie rod end for 1960–1966 Ford and Mercury vehicles, designed to connect the steering rack to the outer tie rod and maintain precise steering geometry. This replacement part fits right- or left-hand applications for cars equipped with manual steering (MS) and 6-cylinder engines; V8 fitment varies by model—see fitment list. Built to restore proper steering response and reduce play, it provides durable performance, corrosion resistance, and reliable fitment for restoration or maintenance projects.
Features:
- Fits 1960–1966 Ford and Mercury models (right or left inner tie rod end; MS & 6‑cyl applications; V8 fitment varies—see vehicle-specific fitment).
- Precision-molded ball stud and housing to restore accurate steering alignment and reduce play.
- Durable materials and corrosion-resistant finish for long-lasting service life.
- Functions to secure the steering linkage, reduce vibration, and prevent premature wear of outer tie rods.
- Direct-replacement design for straightforward installation during restoration or maintenance.
- Sold individually; verify left or right and engine/steering type against vehicle fitment before ordering.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift the vehicle with a jack, and secure it on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod end on the steering rack and apply penetrating oil to the fasteners if corroded.
- Mark the position of the inner and outer tie rod threads relative to each other to preserve alignment, then loosen and remove the outer tie rod from the tie rod end using a tie rod end puller or pickle fork.
- Loosen the clamp or locknut securing the inner tie rod to the steering rack and unscrew the inner tie rod from the rack. Retain any seals or boots that are reusable, or replace them if damaged.
- Compare the new inner tie rod to the old unit to confirm correct length, thread direction (right- or left-hand), and fitment.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the steering rack to the previously marked position. Torque the rack nut/locknut to the vehicle manufacturer's specification.
- Reattach the outer tie rod to the new inner tie rod and torque to specification. Replace any cotter pins or locking hardware as required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
