A front upper control arm shaft kit designed for 1966-1977 Ford and Mercury vehicles, this assembly replaces worn or damaged shafts to restore proper steering geometry and suspension function. The shaft provides a precise pivot point for the upper control arm, maintaining alignment, reducing play, and preventing premature tire wear. Built for durability and reliable performance, the kit is ideal for restoration projects or routine maintenance, offering an easy-to-install solution that brings back factory-fit handling and stability.
Features:
- Fits 1966-1977 Ford and Mercury models — front upper control arm, right and left hand applications.
- High-strength steel construction for long-lasting durability and resistance to bending or wear.
- Restores correct suspension pivoting to reduce steering play and uneven tire wear.
- Precision machined for proper fit and alignment with factory control arm bushings.
- Simple replacement part that supports restoration and maintenance of original handling.
- Corrosion-resistant finish helps extend service life in varied driving conditions.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, set parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands.
- Remove the front wheel on the side being worked for easier access (optional but recommended).
- Locate the upper control arm and apply penetrating oil to fasteners and shaft ends if rusted.
- Support the lower control arm or spindle to prevent sudden movement when removing the shaft.
- Remove any retaining nuts, bolts, cotter pins, or retaining clips securing the control arm shaft.
- Carefully drive or tap the old shaft out using a hammer and punch, supporting the control arm as it comes free.
- Inspect control arm bushings and mounting points; replace bushings if excessively worn before installing new shaft.
- Clean mounting surfaces and apply a light coat of grease to the new shaft where it contacts bushings.
- Slide the new control arm shaft into position, ensuring correct orientation for right/left hand placement.
- Install retaining hardware and torque fasteners to factory specifications. Reinstall cotter pins or clips where applicable.
- Lower the vehicle, torque wheel lug nuts to spec if wheels were removed, and perform a test drive to check steering feel and alignment.
- Have a professional alignment performed if necessary to restore correct tracking and tire wear.
