Direct-fit idler arm for 1967-1970 Ford and Mercury vehicles with power steering. This one-piece design replaces worn or loose idler arms to restore steering geometry, reduce play, and improve tracking. Built for durability and reliable performance, it helps maintain proper tie rod alignment and steering box linkage support under road loads. Ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance, the part is engineered for straightforward installation and long-term service life.
Features:
  • Fitment: 1967-1970 Ford and Mercury passenger cars equipped with power steering (single-piece idler arm application).
  • One-piece idler arm design for improved strength and reduced flex compared to multi-piece units.
  • Supports steering linkage to reduce play and restore proper alignment and tracking.
  • Durable construction resists wear and maintains steering geometry under load.
  • Direct replacement for restoring factory steering feel during rebuilds or maintenance.
  • Designed for straightforward installation with common hand tools — ideal for DIY mechanics.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Combination wrenches
  • Pitman/idler arm puller or ball joint separator
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers (for cotter pin)
  • Penetrating oil
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, and loosen front wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on the ground.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands; remove the appropriate front wheel for access.
  3. Locate the idler arm on the frame rail supporting the center link; apply penetrating oil to fasteners if corroded.
  4. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the nut that secures the idler arm stud to the center link; separate the studs using a pitman/idler arm puller or ball joint separator.
  5. Unbolt the idler arm mounting bolts from the frame bracket and remove the old idler arm assembly.
  6. Position the new one-piece idler arm in the frame bracket and hand-start the mounting bolts; snug but do not fully torque yet.
  7. Attach the idler arm stud to the center link, install the nut, and torque all fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications. Replace cotter pin if applicable.
  8. Lower the vehicle, reinstall the wheel, and torque wheel lug nuts to spec. Perform a steering check and have wheel alignment performed if steering pull or uneven tire wear is observed.
