Direct-fit lower front control arm assembly with integrated ball joint for 1968–1980 Ford and Mercury passenger cars. Designed to replace worn or damaged factory lower control arms, this unit restores proper front suspension geometry, steering response, and wheel alignment. The welded steel arm and pre-pressed ball joint provide durability and reliable load-bearing performance, reducing vibration and uneven tire wear while simplifying installation for restoration and maintenance projects.
Features:
  • Fits 1968–1980 Ford and Mercury front lower control arm, right or left hand (driver or passenger side applications as listed).
  • Welded steel construction for strength and long service life.
  • Integrated pre-pressed ball joint ensures correct fitment and alignment.
  • Restores correct suspension geometry to reduce vibration and tire wear.
  • Direct replacement for worn OEM lower control arms — ideal for restorations and repairs.
  • Bolt-on design simplifies installation; comes ready to install without additional assembly.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Combination wrenches
  • Breaker bar
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint separator (pickle fork) or ball joint press
  • Pry bar
  • Hammer
  • Penetrating oil
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with a floor jack, and support securely on jack stands.
  3. Remove the front wheel to access the lower control arm.
  4. Apply penetrating oil to mounting bolts and ball joint fasteners; allow to soak if corroded.
  5. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut (if present) from the ball joint stud, then separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork.
  6. Support the lower control arm and remove the control arm mounting bolts/nuts at the frame/subframe.
  7. Remove the old control arm from the vehicle and compare to the replacement for correct orientation.
  8. Install the new control arm in position and loosely install the mounting bolts at the frame/subframe.
  9. Insert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle and install the nut; torque to vehicle specifications and install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. Torque the control arm mounting bolts to factory specifications with the suspension at ride height if specified by the vehicle manual; otherwise torque with the vehicle lightly loaded on its wheels.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
  12. Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure proper tire wear and steering geometry.
