Front lower ball joint engineered for 1978-1997 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles to restore steering precision and suspension safety. This grease-port ball joint secures the lower control arm to the steering knuckle, allowing controlled pivoting while carrying vehicle load. A serviceable design improves longevity and keeps suspension components properly lubricated, delivering reliable, vibration-reducing performance and easier future maintenance. Durable construction ensures corrosion resistance and consistent fit for restoration and replacement projects.

  • Pry bar
  • Hammer
  • Torque wrench
  • Grease gun (for grease-port)
  • Penetrating oil
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and loosen lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise front of vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands; remove the wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to mounting fasteners and allow to soak if rusted.
  4. Remove the cotter pin and nut from the tie rod end and separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle if necessary to gain access.
  5. Disconnect any sway bar links or brake line brackets attached to the control arm as needed.
  6. Support the lower control arm and remove the control arm-to-frame bolts if required to relieve tension.
  7. Use a ball joint press or removal tool to press out the old ball joint from the control arm or knuckle.
  8. Clean the mounting surfaces and install the new ball joint, pressing it into place per the tool and vehicle manufacturer's instructions.
  9. Install and torque the castle nut to the specified value for your vehicle, insert a new cotter pin if applicable.
  10. Reassemble any removed components (control arm bolts, sway bar links, tie rod end), and torque all fasteners to factory specifications.
  11. Fill the ball joint with grease using a grease gun through the grease port until grease is seen exiting seals or per service guidelines.
  12. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
  13. Have wheel alignment checked and adjusted as necessary before driving.
